Austin Trending Reporter

Hearst Newspapers and MySA.com is seeking a passionate digital Trending Reporter to cover our expansion into Austin, TX community coverage. You will draft stories, commentary and then some for a new, developing audience. Your mission will be to write time-sensitive stories that cover a diverse Austin, Texas audience while also being a rich resource for travelers to the area. This person should have an innate story sense—able to identify and nurture local stories of national importance.

This role will be remote in Austin, with occasional trips to our San Antonio Express-News office.

Responsibilities

Monitor and identify emerging trends, news, and topics within Austin, TX.
Quickly turn around trend pieces and features.
Cover evolving stories with urgency!
Create and maintain a steady supply of sources for story ideas that allows a depth of ideas each day that can provide different options to choose from
Collaborate with editorial teams to develop and execute digital content strategies.
Conduct in-depth research and interviews to uncover unique stories and perspectives.
Utilize data analytics to track content performance and make data-driven adjustments.
Uphold journalistic integrity and ethics in all reporting and content creation.
Interest in and familiarity with Austin, TX community and culture.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, or related field.
Proven experience in digital journalism, content creation, or a related role.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Keen understanding of social media’s role in publishing, for both reporting and promotion
Enjoys developing voice-driven pieces on culturally relevant topics
Shoot photos and video to tell stories in multiple ways.
