The San Francisco Examiner, one of local journalism’s most storied brands, is growing! We’re under new ownership, and we’re seizing the opportunity to reinvent the way we approach the news of the city and surrounding region by growing our team from the ground up. Among other roles, we’re looking for reporters of all levels to spearhead a wide variety of coverage areas across the city and the region. From underrepresented communities to public health to climate change to the future of work, we’re looking for reporters with a knack for identifying stories no other outlet is thinking about. We have a massive opportunity to use the Examiner as a driving force for essential conversations—which our reporters will be at the forefront of, and often initiate. The ideal candidate thrives in a scrappy environment, is passionate about the future of local news, and believes many of the most fascinating stories of our time originate in San Francisco. We’re looking for an incisive writer with a sharp eye for identifying the zeitgeist and framing it into a compelling narrative. Successful applicants will be nimble, flexible thinkers, and willing to consider unconventional approaches to traditional forms of media in the interest of powerful reporting and deep audience engagement.
