Serve as an associate to the manager of Shared Editorial Services, a team that oversees all Editorial content and some digital and marketing content for Ed Solutions. Help to manage, review, and correct a large flow of content on fast deadlines.

Responsibilities

Provide assignments and instructions to the team when the manager is out. Assist with the prioritization and balancing of a sometimes heavy, always diverse workload across a team of English and Spanish copy editors in concert with the team’s manager.
Review the edits and questions of fellow copy editors. Serve as a liaison with Editorial, Production, and other teams to understand project needs and answer copy editor questions.
Assist with onboarding and mentoring of new in-house copy editors.
Copyedit/proofread children’s books, instructional guides, marketing content, and research materials (can include a cold read of layout or manuscript, a detailed skim of materials, checking copy against manuscript, confirming corrections, reviewing printer proofs, reviewing samples and prototypes, etc.).
Perform content and functional QA of digital components, including ebooks, online assessments, websites, audio/video clips, and metadata review.
Provide editorial support, such as fact-checking, manuscript editing, assisting with style guide creation, and checking content across multiple files.
Enter text corrections and note design/layout issues in Adobe InCopy, mark pdfs using Adobe Reader/Pro, and add content to and edit Excel spreadsheets.

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent knowledge of the English language, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and nuance
Strong attention to detail and tight deadlines
Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and/or other commonly used styles, such as AP and APA (can train if needed)
Experience with Adobe Reader/Pro pdf markups, Adobe Excel, and Adobe InCopy desired (can train if needed)
Ability to follow detailed instructions and ask relevant questions.
Ability to move between projects with different deadlines and guidelines.
Language skills in addition to English would be a plus.

Experience and Education:

Experience: 5-10 years of relevant editing, copyediting, and proofreading experience, preferably for audiences that include children, educators, and/or parents
