Position Summary:
The News Editor plays a vital role in producing high-quality, engaging, and timely news content for a national mortgage news service. This position requires a skilled storyteller who can craft breaking news, feature articles, and trend pieces informed by data analytics, industry interviews, and market research. By delivering relevant and impactful content, the News Editor will serve as a trusted resource for mortgage and financial professionals, driving audience engagement and reinforcing the company’s reputation as a leader in mortgage industry news.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with other editors to produce both regular daily news and breaking news
Pitch stories relevant to mortgage and financial professionals, identifying emerging trends and market insights.
Write, edit, and proofread digital mortgage industry news content, crafting compelling headlines and visuals tailored to the target audience.
Write, edit, and proofread editorial content for Scotsman Guide’s print magazine
Maintain a database of reliable news sources, ensuring consistent access to quality information.
Utilize proprietary market data and content analytics to optimize content decisions and maximize engagement.
Contribute to special projects, such as industry reports and multimedia campaigns, while staying informed of trends in journalism and digital media.
Qualifications:
Strong ability to craft concise, engaging, and SEO-optimized content.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Familiarity with AP Style.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Journalism, Communications, or a related field from a four-year college or university.
· Minimum of two years of professional experience in editing and/or reporting within a journalistic setting, with a preference for business journalism expertise.
