MDA is the official national ambulance, blood services, and disaster relief organization of Israel, delivering emergency medical care to all Israelis. Established in 1940, AFMDA advocates for and supports MDA through philanthropic donations from generous individuals, foundations, and corporations. With its headquarters in New York City and several regional offices nationwide, AFMDA educates and raises funds for one of Israel’s most essential organizations, which responds to medical emergencies and saves lives daily.

Position Overview:

The Senior Content Writer/Project Manager will craft compelling narratives across diverse platforms, from fundraising appeals to magazine articles, requiring editorial versatility and research skills. Central to this role is the ability to write copy that utilizes persuasive storytelling to drive engagement with AFMDA and helps to raise funds for and awareness of one of Israel’s most vital organizations.

The senior content writer will be responsible for shaping AFMDA's key messages to inspire action. As the primary editor for marketing materials, you'll collaborate closely with the CMO and marketing and development teams to showcase the extraordinary work of those safeguarding Israel's citizens.

Essential Job Functions:

Content Development and Writing

Support the editorial strategy and content roadmap to ensure that marketing materials align with brand standards and engage the appropriate target audiences.
Write and edit engaging donor-centric content in support of fundraising campaigns, including direct mail appeals, email campaigns, newsletters, magazines, brochures, donor proposals, and impact reports.
Conduct research and develop compelling storytelling pieces, including donor interviews and conversations with paramedics and beneficiaries, to highlight MDA’s impact.
Work with leadership to identify content opportunities that enhance donor engagement and support fundraising goals.
Manage and collaborate with vendors and freelancers, including direct mail consultants, writers, and graphic designers.
Act as the primary proofreader and copy editor for the organization.
Review and revise content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the strategic objectives of AFMDA and be able to interpret those objectives for specific audiences.

Project Management

Simultaneously manage multiple writing projects and editorial processes from conception through completion—coordinating writers, editors, subject-matter experts, and internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure timely execution of deliverables, including direct mail campaigns and digital content; coordinate logistics.
Collaborate with development staff to align messaging across platforms and obtain content for newsletters, etc.
Manage the workflow of content projects, coordinating with external writers, designers, and vendors.
Maintain an editorial calendar to ensure content is produced and distributed on schedule.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no (internal) supervisory responsibilities.

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; a master’s degree or advanced degree is preferred.

Skills Required:

Exceptional writing and editing skills.
10+ years of experience in content writing, copywriting, or editorial roles, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
Strong knowledge of fundraising campaigns, donor communications, and direct mail strategies.
Excellent research, storytelling, and interviewing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
Experience writing for publications, donor reports, and marketing collateral.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Self-starter; deadline-oriented; personable and able to foster positive working relationships with colleagues, partners, etc.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g., Asana).
Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in writing, grammar, and style.
Proficiency in AP Style.
Knowledge and understanding of relevant current events, Jewish holidays and observations relevant to the American Jewish community and pro-Israel audiences.
Adept at thriving in a fast-paced environment with a collaborative, flexible approach.
Ability to be present in the NYC Office 2-3 times a week.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $100,000–$125,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

This position is hybrid remote/in-person at AFMDA’s New York City office, currently with two days per week expected in the office.
