The Crisis and Conflict Division of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a Senior Editor to provide writing and editing support to the team. The Crisis and Conflict Division documents, exposes, and advocates to end violations of human rights and the laws of war during armed conflicts and severe social or political unrest. We bring attention to under-reported crises, highlight the plight of marginalized people, advance rights-respecting legal norms, and press for justice to protect and promote human rights. The Senior Editor will report to the Director of the Crisis and Conflict Division based in Washington D.C., and will work closely with the Director of Communications, based in New York. This is a two-year, fixed-term position and should preferably be based in a location where HRW has an office. Due to Covid-19, many of our global offices are operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely as local mandates necessitate. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.
