Within the spirit of "Making People's Dreams Come True", this position’s primary function is to define the high-end of community journalism while requiring minimal supervision. They are self-directed newsroom leaders who model the ability to cover complex subject matter in a sophisticated way.

This full-time position will report to the Spanish Springs location.

This is NOT a remote opportunity.

Responsibilities:

Generates a steady stream of compelling enterprise stories across a wide range of subject matter for publication or broadcast.
Curate a stable of reliable sources and effectively evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas.
Gathers and verifies factual information and authentic detail through interview, observation and research.
Utilizes a range of writing techniques.
Translates bureaucratic lingo into clear, concise, and reader-friendly language.
Organizes material, determines emphasis, and writes stories according to style, standards and deadlines established by their editor.
May be required to specialize in one type of reporting, such as sports, politics, business, etc.
May edit or assist in editing stories for broadcast.
May appear on affiliated television programs or radio broadcasts.
May be required to occasionally write stories for The Villages Magazine.
Assist in the development of less experienced reporters.
Backfills for the Managing Editor as needed.
Fosters a culture of collaboration and contributes to a healthy team dynamic.
This position will be considered part of the leadership team and will be self-directed in managing workflow.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent and Two (2) years of reporting experience with a daily newspaper.
Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to company standards.

Travel Requirements:

May be required to transport from job to job, employee will provide own transportation to job site.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Represents the team’s interests in the absence of the Managing Editor, assists in the development of non-senior staffers.
