About The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Technical Writer, with a specialism in writing API and developer documentation, to create content for our developer portal. Our integration layer is growing rapidly, and so is our need for first-class documentation to go with it. We need someone who has a thirst for understanding how things work and has a thorough understanding of REST APIs and webhooks, and can use those skills to write easy-to-use documentation that creates a great developer experience. You’ll be involved in API, webhook, and data feed development from design through to release, working directly with software engineers and product managers. You’ll do this while being part of a technical writing team within your business stream, which provides the support, guidance and, education needed to perform the role, and also a wider Technical Communications department.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Technical Writer for developer documentation you will:

Produce clear, easy-to-read, and consistent documentation for our APIs, webhooks and data feeds predominantly.
Write references, integration guides and release notes.
Help engineering teams with consistent naming of attributes/fields.
Become a subject matter expert for the areas you work on.
Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and other Technical Writers.
Develop relationships with our Solution Architects.
Review and proofread other writers’ work.
Contribute to the working methods and processes of the wider Technical Communications team

We’re looking for someone who has strong technical writing experience, particularly in the API area, and is a content enthusiast - who knows the impact well-written content can have, and also who is looking to explore new ways of enhancing the experience of learning to use, and using, the software with new and emerging approaches.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

Proven experience of writing API and developer-focussed documentation.
Proven experience in documenting cross-sectional, technical topics.
Proven experience in writing according to accepted industry standards.
A working knowledge of REST APIs and the Open API schema.
An understanding of the needs of developers who build against APIs.
Impeccable written English, and the ability to write consistently and concisely in accordance with a style guide.
The ability to write easy-to-read, fluent text in plain English, and the capability to organise content clearly.
Proven experience of working directly with engineering teams.
An ability to work independently to tight deadlines, across multiple projects simultaneously.
Using Git, or other version control systems

Bonus points if you also have…

Writing for internationalisation - and working with software and content that is delivered in multiple languages.
