Open to fully remote but prefer in the CST time zone, if candidate is in Houston, TX will go to office.
DESCRIPTION/COMMENT:
As part of a collaborative team, the Senior Writer works closely with Managers, product champions, field engineers, and technical subject matter experts to develop clear, compelling copy for customer-facing print and digital collateral. Senior Writers function as subject matter experts (SMEs) for writing and editing within the company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
Understand Company business goals and key differentiators as well as competitors’ offerings and key differentiators
Understand market information and product features presented by the Managers, Product Champions, and/or technical SMEs
Working with Managers, Product Champions, and technical SMEs, assist in writing campaign creative briefs:
Clearly state the marketing objectives in support of the businesses’ objectives
Determine the target audience and the audience insights that help our marketing efforts best appeal to that audience
Craft how we position this campaign in the market
Identify any inputs or constraints on campaign execution
Working with MarCom Managers, Product Champions, and technical SMEs and the creative team, contribute without supervision to creating campaign plans
Develop key messaging and overall story
Contribute creative ideas to the campaign strategy for various marketing channels and marketing collateral types
Collaborate on design concepts, including tone of voice and campaign look and feel
Inspire creativity, innovative thinking, and focused effort in developing strong messaging
Take the lead in exploring new, impactful messaging directions and channels, while adhering to Company brand standards and best practices
Apply versatile communication and problem-solving skills to respond to changing market trends and competitor marketing initiatives and messaging
Write marketing collateral without supervision that includes but is not limited to product sheets, posters, case studies, technical reports, product or service webpages, e-mails, industry articles, thought leadership articles, video or animation scripts, LinkedIn and other social media promotional posts, and marketing campaign messaging
Upload new content as needed in Sitecore content management system (CMS)
Optimize content strategy based on digital consumption trends and SEO keyword research
Update existing product or service webpages to ensure SEO best practices are applied across published content given evolving marketing messaging
Manage assigned projects and work with others on the creative team to ensure timely completion of marketing collateral that meets or exceed stakeholder expectations and that is on-brand and to our editorial quality standards
Work with stakeholders and the assigned Art Director to provide clear direction to the creative team at the start of a project and follow through by mentoring writers, helping to guide their efforts and maintain communication and brand standards through the review process
Mentor junior colleagues through per reviews, one-on-one mentoring, knowledge sharing, and/or hosting structured training sessions
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 8-10 yrs. experience, preferably in O&G industry
Experience writing for a technical industry, preferably in a B2B environment
Knowledgeable of energy industry terminology
Knowledgeable on the Chicago Manual of Style
Experience with project management systems
5–9 years’ experience in professional writing/editing/communication, web writing, marketing, and working with creative teams, and project management
Creative Thinking—Bring compelling new ideas to persona-based campaigns.
Proficient with Microsoft Word or similar word processing software, along with basic computer skills
Knowledgeable of basic HTML or CMS experience
Knowledgeable of SEO optimization and keyword research tools
Excellent understanding of writing workflows
Skilled in writing initial drafts or marketing collateral for review by more experienced writers or technical SMEs with close supervision
Knowledgeable of the current marketing landscape, including news, trends, software, etc. and how that affects marketing and content strategy
Familiarity of CMS—Ability to upload and create new content.
SEO Knowledge—Understand search engine optimization (SEO) best practices, keyword research, and familiar with reviewing Google Analytics dashboards in Data Studio to adjust messaging.
