Located in our Albany office and reporting to the Editor, this role is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic journalist to join the team behind one of WA’s oldest and most esteemed newspapers.

The Albany Advertiser is a historic and beloved masthead, which has provided detailed coverage to the people of the Great Southern since 1888.

The position requires great writing and communication skills, a nose for news, and a strong work ethic. The ideal candidate is passionate about storytelling and a brilliant analytical thinker. While prior journalism experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Consistently delivering accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines
Building and maintaining excellent contacts across the community
Covering breaking news stories across a broad range of areas
Pitching agenda-setting exclusive story ideas to the Editor
Interviewing and photographing subjects confidently and professionally
Representing the company in a professional and courteous manner

What you will bring to the role:

Excellent copywriting skills and an eagle-eye for detail
Excellent time management with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
A passion for community journalism, strong work ethic and self-motivation
Great communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly with a range of stakeholders
A valid driver’s licence
