Sherwood Media is Robinhood's new, independent media brand for news and information about the markets, economics, business, technology, and the culture of money. The story of money is the story of culture, and Sherwood is the secret weapon for the next generation of investors. Our team is making financial news more accessible, entertaining, and relevant by improving the way it is curated, shared, and consumed. We are building on the success of Snacks — our flagship markets and business newsletter — which has one of the largest audiences in the country.
About the team + role
We’re looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic writer to cover business news. This includes developments that help readers understand what drives sales, profit margins, and earnings. This means keeping up with everything ranging from broad economic trends to company-specific challenges. Coverage may include company profiles, earnings analysis, leadership interviews, regulatory matters, industry trends, thought provoking anecdotes, and anything else that helps inform readers on how business really works. Whether you are a generalist or an industry specialist, what matters is that you are endlessly curious about what makes companies successful and how they make money. You should have an ability to break through the noise and a vision for improving the existing ways of coverage to better serve modern audiences.
The role is located in the office location(s) listed on this job description which will align with our in-office working environment. Please connect with your recruiter for more information regarding our in-office philosophy and expectations.
What you’ll do
As part of the Sherwood Media team, you’ll be on the pulse of the daily news cycle. You'll work closely with News editors and writers to pitch, develop, draft and refine stand-out business stories crafted for our audience, not just financiers.
Your core responsibility is researching and writing incisive news stories and analysis to shape Sherwood’s editorial voice.
You will communicate and coordinate with editors in planning, scheduling, publishing, and distributing stories and features.
You will help ensure our coverage spans a balance of perspectives and topics, and uphold Sherwood’s editorial and ethics standards.
Here, you will have the opportunity to transform your career in a dynamic environment that supports excellence and autonomy.
What you bring
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in a newsroom setting
Previous experience covering news and reacting to breaking-news situations
Knowledge of other key editorial players in the landscape and the desire to hone Sherwood’s distinct voice
A love for news and keen editorial judgment. You’re eager to make people’s financial lives better through news that delivers key insights and education
Quick. Clear. Engaging. You’re able to break down business concepts and make them easy to understand and digestible for a broad audience
You’re not satisfied with a summary — you can find "the story within a story" and connect events to the bigger picture
You have an ownership mentality. You're constantly looking for the next story, and are driven to hone your craft and find better ways to serve our audience
You prioritize quality and pay strong attention to detail, factual precision, and nuance
Flexibility and willingness to collaborate cross-functionally, experiment, and develop new tools
What we offer
Market competitive and pay equity-focused compensation structure
100% paid health insurance for employees with 90% coverage for dependents
Annual lifestyle wallet for personal wellness, learning and development, and more!
Lifetime maximum benefit for family forming and fertility benefits
Dedicated mental health support for employees and eligible dependents
