Southern Coalition for Social Justice (SCSJ) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in August 2007 and works across the South. Our mission is to promote justice by partnering with communities of color and economically disadvantaged communities to defend and advance their political, social, and economic rights. Position Summary:
SCSJ is looking for a talented and versatile Website Content Coordinator who will create and manage content for the organization’s website while also making sure user experience and engagement is at its best. This position will keep web content up to date and accurate, including web pages, images, videos, news, litigation and more. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and communicator, adept at distilling technical issues and complex nuances into sharp, engaging digital content. They will have a deep understanding of and familiarity with WordPress, search engine optimization, digital audiences, and online engagement strategies and will track the latest website trends and provide strategic insights to the organization. This position will report to the Communications Director and work closely at times with the Social Media Strategist.
Responsibilities Include:
Clear communication and collaboration with staff across all program areas for content creation and coordination.
Creation and management of website content.
Management of the organization’s CMS.
Website audits to identify and rectify gaps and redundancies in site content, effectively prioritizing and delivering on content needs starting with the website’s litigation tracker.
Analysis of website analytics to improve user engagement and experience.
Quarterly website engagement reports that review key performance indicators to track progress and make recommendations for improvement.
Utilization of SEO tools to drive traffic to the website and enhance organization visibility in search engines.
Optimization of website content with relevant keywords and linking to improve organic traffic.
Optimization of the website’s technical aspects, such as site speed, mobile-friendliness, and schema, for search engines.
Other communications web-related projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Ability to research, collate and summarize information from different sources.
At least 2 years of work experience in copywriting, website development and or website maintenance.
Prior experience in nonprofits, journalism, copywriting, website management, paralegal work, or related fields preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice principles and SCSJ’s community-lawyering model of practice.
Proficiency with WordPress CMS and knowledge of search engine optimization and website performance optimization.
Working knowledge and or willingness to learn/stay up to date with developments in voting rights, environmental justice, and justice system reform.
Proven ability in building a consistent, strong online presence with a positive user experience.
Strong project management skills, including sharp attention to detail, the ability to multitask, prioritize, meet deadlines, and follow-up.
Technical and analytical, with an ability to spot patterns, gaps and repetitions in website content.
Self-motivated and ability to meet deadlines without issue.
Works well in team settings and can communicate well with SCSJ’s team of lawyers, researchers, and communication professionals.
Ability to manage multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
Good understanding of SEO industry trends and experience with related tools.
Bonus skill: Familiarity with AP Style.
Bonus skill: HTML/CSS/JS experience.
Salary and Benefits:
The Website Content Coordinator’s starting salary range is $55,000-65,000 per year, commensurate with experience and includes comprehensive health and retirement plans.
Location:
SCSJ’s physical office is in Durham, North Carolina. SCSJ is a hybrid work environment; staff are expected to work in our Durham office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week with remote flexibility on Monday and Friday.
