The Delta Dunklin Democrat seeks a talented sports editor interested in helping create compelling local content for a community that is passionate about their high school sports teams and regularly has several teams go far in state tournaments.
The Delta Dunklin Democrat publishes a print edition Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and is part of semoball.com, a regional sports website that aggregates sports content from seven Rust Communications newspapers in Southeast Missouri. Semoball.com covers 56 high schools as well as college sports, including a Division I university and Three Rivers College. The company hosts an annual awards show (Semoball Awards) where the top athletes and coaches from area high schools are recognized for athletic and academic accomplishments.
We want our next sports editor to share stories about the athletes and coaches in both print and digital format and not just rely on game coverage to fill the pages.
Job duties include:
• Photograph, write and edit feature stories and columns
• Develop digital and social media content
• Organize and manage assignments
• Assist with the pagination and layout of print products
• Uncover hidden talent in our area to use as freelance writers
We are also looking for someone who will be an active part of our newsroom, coachable, and can communicate well with others and understand at times it’s better to pick up the phone and call someone instead of texting and emailing.
This family-owned company based in Southeast Missouri encourages innovation and collaboration throughout the organization and values quality journalism.
We offer the standard full-time benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance, 401K, and free life insurance. We also offer flexible work schedules and an opportunity to become part of a special community.
