Sports Reporter

The Rio Rancho Observer is looking for a sports reporter experienced in community sports journalism. Sports reporters contribute to our newspaper’s print product, social media and overall web presence and participate in conversations to increase our reach. Sports reporters can expect to work some evenings and occasional weekends as needed. Qualifications include: Accuracy in reporting. Fluency in AP Style. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowing how to tell a story and not just regurgitating stats and play-by-play. Strong computer skills. Ability to meet tight deadlines. Ability to collaborate on new projects and work in a fast-paced environment. Contribute to conversations regarding projects, daily budget and pitching stories. Ability to work independently or with other news staff. Willingness to take on assignments outside of sports beat.
