We are seeking a dedicated and skilled SEO Editor to join our dynamic editorial team at the Racing Post, reporting directly to our Head of Audience. This role involves responsibility for driving reach and conversion via search traffic, and includes responsibility for managing a range of live and evergreen digital content and supporting our wider content team's understanding of SEO.

The SEO Editor will be responsible for creating a range of search-optimised content, writing and editing articles as well as commissioning work from our in-house racing and sports content teams as well as freelance journalists. The role demands proactive planning for future coverage of key racing and sport events as well as adapting to and capitalising on live news opportunities as they arise.

The role will also involve working closely with the wider editorial team to ensure content is brilliantly optimised for search, trending topics are targeted and articles are optimised for conversion, particularly to new betting accounts.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates and delivers search-optimised transactional content based on the sporting calendar and betting keywords
Coordinates, delivers and refreshes our range of evergreen content, including ownership of the evergreen elements of our 'RP Recommends' programme
Works with the Head of Audience and Group Sports Director to plan comprehensive SEO content packages for major betting events and responds quickly to news opportunities to maximise reach and conversion
Conducts regular reach and conversion performance reviews and shares insights with other audience development teams and senior stakeholders
Monitors SEO trends and betting affiliate market shifts to optimise content strategy and maximise user conversion, sharing best practice with other editors
Collaborates with the broader editorial team to ensure that all of our content is optimised for search and trending stories are being targeted

Our ideal candidate will have:

Excellent understanding of key SEO principles and the betting affiliate market and a flair for creating great content that drives high-intent traffic
Previous experience working with digital content in Google News, Top Stories and Google Discover
Good data handling skills and the ability to critically analyse performance trends against KPIs
Proven experience in conversion optimisation and the ability to demonstrate the success of previous projects
Experience writing and editing content for publication on digital platforms, ideally within the betting or sports sector
Good knowledge of horseracing and the wider sporting calendar
Knowledge of betting terminology, principles and practices
Ability to plan for and adapt to a rapidly changing news environment
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a keen appreciation of the importance of accuracy

Desirable skills:

Experience managing in-house or freelance writers
Experience working with SEO tools such as GA4, GSC, Looker Studio, Google Trends, Semrush, Ahrefs or similar
