Reporter

The Pioneer Press seeks a full-time general assignment reporter to cover a geographic beat in the suburbs of Chicago. This energetic reporter should be comfortable covering a variety of stories that are important to a local audience. This reporter should be nimble. A typical work week might involve analyzing public issues at a city council meeting, digging into the politics of the county board, responding to breaking news, crafting an engaging feature story and examining local issues in education. This reporter will also take photos, seek out opportunities for investigations and projects, collaborate with other journalists to tell stories in creative ways, and the weekly police blotter. The reporter will develop sources and write must-read stories for their beat, making themselves an authority on the area they cover. The qualified candidate will likely have experience working in a fast-paced news environment; excellent writing skills; solid news judgment; an understanding of journalism ethics; and a passion for local news. We are open to candidates with a variety of journalism skill sets.
