Editor (News & Money Desk)

New Posted 4 January 2024 | Remote | Stacker

Stacker is looking for a kind, organized, and collaborative colleague to join our growing newsroom as a news and money editor. In particular, we’re looking for a candidate with subject matter expertise in at least some of the following areas:

Money/finance

Real estate (market, mortgages, buying vs. renting)
Financial industry (general)
Economic data, policies, and organizations (BLS, Fed, etc.)
Small business

News/science

National politics
Health (health outcomes, insurance)
Climate change

As an editor at Stacker, you’ll help shape and manage our coverage across the money and news desk, working with freelancers on a wide variety of stories each month. We’re looking for candidates with excellent news judgment and storytelling skills, including a sharp sense of when a story needs a complete overhaul versus a light polish (and everything in between). We’re also looking for someone who understands the interplay of race and socioeconomic factors within the coverage areas mentioned above.

Experience editing stories that involve data and/or statistical analysis is a must. We’re looking for candidates with a passion for helping others develop into better journalists and advance in their careers. This position is also highly collaborative: The stories you’ll work on will be a blend of original Stacker pieces and stories written for our content studio, meaning you'll have unique access to a content studio, independent media organization, and distribution network. So we’re looking for someone who loves teaming up with others and knows how to manage a project with multiple stakeholders.

Who We Are

Stacker is a new media company excited by the future of journalism. Every day, our efforts center on developing new and more sustainable ways to produce, distribute, and fund great storytelling that contextualizes our world and drives impact for news publishers big and small. We do this through a number of ways—from our tech-forward storytelling platform and freely accessible newswire, to our editorial partnerships focused on distributing coverage from nonprofit newsrooms and brand publishers.

Our ultimate mission is to empower the world’s publishers: through a commitment to provide free access to great storytelling and by championing innovation in how journalism is done, we enable our national- and local-scale publishing partners to engage their audiences and focus on their own original reporting.

As a self-funded company, we’re a resourceful team focused on building an inclusive, equitable culture around shared values of integrity, ownership, and collaboration. Building for the future is reflected in the way we work: we are remote-first, embrace flexible schedules, and offer competitive benefits and perks including unlimited vacation, an employee equity program, full health & dental coverage, and 401(k) matching.
