Our award-winning community weekly newspaper is seeking a talented and ambitious reporter to cover all facets of our coverage area. We are a rural Minnesota newspaper, one of three in our small group, which prides itself on excellence in writing, photography and design. The most recent occupier of this chair is now a full-time reporter for a daily newspaper in the State of Virginia... hopefully utilizing some of the sage journalism advice gleaned from our four-decades-plus of experience in the newspaper industry. Our community is small, but we are not remote... just a couple of hours away from the bright lights of Minneapolis. We are a farming town, but are very near a lakes region for which Minnesota is well known. Abundant outdoor opportunities exist for the person wishing to partake. It's also a wonderful place to raise a family... we did it and sent three successful college-educated children out in to the world to discover their own passions. We want a person willing and able to move into our community so he or she will become integrated with its soul. The best reporters know their beat. Looking to get rich? Maybe not here, but the tradeoff is a comfortable lifestyle where people will want to get to know you, and you them. Oh, and forget about $2000 a month rent. The cost of living here is incomparable to living in a city... in a good way. We offer a starting salary of $33,280 per year (a bit more if you have experience), plus we are proud to have a group health insurance plan available for our employees. Other than that we offer the usual two weeks of paid vacation, sick days, mileage and flexible scheduling. We are not a big corporation that puts itself ahead of all else. We are a family company, and family always comes first. If any of this seems inviting and you'd like to learn more, send a letter of interest, resume, references and samples of your best work -- both writing and photography -- to Ted at kbanner@tds.net. We look forward to hearing from you!
