The Standard-Democrat, a three-times-a-week publication in Sikeston, Mo., is searching for someone to join its newsroom team in a leadership role as an assistant editor. This position will include management and reporting duties.We are looking for someone who is ready to take the next step in their career with a possible eye on becoming an editor. If that sounds like you, we are the newspaper to help you reach your goal. Our assistant editor will help make decisions with the editor concerning coverage, special sections, editorials, and the general direction of the newsroom. They will also cover government meetings, write feature stories, help with the police/fire/court beat, take photographs, and paginate pages. A working knowledge of InDesign and other Adobe products is helpful, though we are willing to train. Our assistant editor will also work closely with the editor on our digital products, including our website, Facebook and Twitter. We publish on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Our Wednesday paper is also our Total Market Coverage product and is distributed to 14,000 readers in our communities. Sikeston is the Gateway to the South and located along Interstate 55 a little over two hours from St. Louis (to the north) and Memphis (to the south). Cape Girardeau, Mo., home to Southeast Missouri State University, is located 30 minutes to the north.
