Stars and Stripes, the editorially independent daily newspaper and website covering the U.S. military worldwide, is looking for a staff reporter to work at its bureau in Vicenza, Italy.

The beat includes covering the home of the 173rd Airborne Brigade and U.S. Africa Command’s task force in southern Europe, but goes beyond that. We’re looking for someone who can spot broader Army issues and develop them into enterprise stories that resonate with service members, civilians, veterans and families. The ideal candidate will integrate into the local community and use social media adeptly, because military officials often don’t volunteer all that much information.

Knowledge of the military is preferred and Italian language proficiency is a plus, but not required. Sharp news instincts, interviewing skill and writing ability on tight deadlines are essential.
