Hannah News Service, the unmatched leader in Statehouse news, information and research in Ohio since 1986, seeks an editorial assistant/reporter to add to its professional Statehouse news staff in its Columbus, Ohio office. Hannah News is a non-partisan organization with affiliates in four states serving clients with a wide spectrum of political ideologies. This full-time position reports to the publisher as well as president of Hannah News Service. The ideal candidate will have an interest in state government and Ohio politics. The candidate must enjoy a fast-paced environment and be willing to work a very flexible schedule to accommodate the rapidly changing environment of the Ohio General Assembly.
This position is both in-person and remote following a three-month in-person probationary period. Staff get every other Friday off unless the legislative schedule dictates otherwise.
The candidate should be very comfortable with new technology and software.
Ohio Senate Duties
-Monitor Ohio Senate portion of the online Capitol Connection for all versions of legislative bills, LSC analyses, fiscal notes, committee testimony, amendments, etc.
-Upload Senate legislation and other documents as needed on Capitol Connection.
-Monitor Senate sessions and post real-time updates.
-Send Senate Floor Actions/Journal Summary to clients upon completion of session and release of journal.
-Prepare and send Senate Calendar when needed.
-Monitor national and local news sources and post pertinent stories in system -- this is daily beginning at 8 a.m.
-Write other stories as directed.
-Participate in reporter staff meetings.
-Help with in-house design/updating of publications using InDesign.
-Monitor and post documents from various state agencies.
-Update legislator information using Hannah software.
