As National Editor you will work closely with States Newsroom’s management and editorial team to maintain editorial standards, coverage consistency, and commentary breadth at affiliated outlets. You will supervise and support state editors in their work as team leaders and mentors to their reporters. You will provide direct editorial and editing support to state outlets as needed and work closely with other national editors to improve and sustain the States Newsroom network. You may also advise state editors on national or cross-outlet projects, specific outlet improvement plans, and best editing practices. As supervisor to a group of 8 to 10 state editors, you will be responsible for holding weekly (at least) virtual check-ins with your assigned state editors to ensure standards are met, communicate about analytics and audience strategies, and facilitate improvements in their newsrooms. You will also conduct annual performance reviews of editors and their outlets. You will participate in regular in-person meetings of all States Newsroom editors, usually in Washington, DC, and more infrequent gatherings of the national editorial team and regional staff. Some travel to state outlets and our offices in Washington D.C. and Chapel Hill, NC will also be required.
