The Steamboat Pilot & Today needs an aggressive reporter to cover our public safety, education and county government beats along with general assignment stories.
With ties to more than 100 Olympians, Steamboat Springs is a storied city at the base of a world-class ski resort. Nestled along the Western Slope of the Colorado Rockies with the Yampa River cutting through downtown, Steamboat sits at 6,700 feet elevation and features some of the best opportunities in North America for hiking, mountain biking, camping, kayaking, rafting, tubing, skiing and snowboarding. Steamboat Springs is also home to Howelsen Hill, the oldest continuously operating ski area in North America, and a world-famous geothermal hot springs, among many other local features.
At the Steamboat Pilot & Today, we value integrity, teamwork and a commitment to the community, in addition to being able to handle the many pressures of a daily newspaper. Responsibilities include writing well-sourced stories and news reports, as well as producing shorter staff reports and news briefs while taking some photos. We will expect you to ensure accuracy, fairness and correct spelling and grammar in all your reporting duties while working at the direction of the publisher and editor.
Qualified applicants will have either a journalism degree, degree in a similar field or applicable work experience. They should also have a knowledge of AP style; the availability to work some nights, weekends and holidays; a valid driver’s license and transportation; and most importantly, a serious desire to perform quality community journalism.

Compensation: $20-$24 per hour. Benefits include up to a $500 annual recreation reimbursement, vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, vision, 401K match and more.
