SHE Media is hiring a dynamic Deputy Editor to oversee content production on StyleCaster. This full-time, hybrid position includes three days in our New York office overlooking Bryant Park. The Deputy Editor will be a key member of SC’s editorial team, working to refine and execute editorial strategy, manage staff editors, and coordinate workflow.
The ideal candidate boasts a generalist sensibility and is steeped in modern internet culture, from every -core fashion trend to Scandoval. They should be highly capable of autonomous content production, shepherding ideas from pitch to production to promotion.
We’re looking for a discerning leader who can sift through all of the content on the web and find the StyleCaster POV. As our site expands its coverage of men’s fashion, culture, and lifestyle, this person will need to be confident and motivated in these arenas. The Deputy Editor should be laser-focused on editorial excellence and capable of bringing out the best from their staff and contributors. They’ll have the opportunity to write and edit stories including cover features, while recruiting new voices to write essays and service journalism for the site.
The Deputy Editor will balance news assignments based on the daily zeitgeist with a deep emphasis on site health and longevity. An eye towards evergreen, search-optimized stories is non-negotiable. Success in this role requires passion for developing junior and mid-level talent, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and an obsession with performance metrics. Requirement:
Manage and mentor editorial team including staff editors and remote writers, providing day-to-day guidance, and top editing across site
Implement strategy for refreshing and maintaining top-performing stories
Assign, edit and publish stories across key verticals (lifestyle trends, décor, beauty, fashion, sexual health, love) with an evergreen focus
Contribute to site in your area of expertise, including personal essays and hot takes
Spearhead and execute tentpoles, collaborate with EIC on digital issues and destinations, including sponsored
Oversee social media strategy
Manage/approve editorial budgets, approve daily newsletters
Requirements:
4-6 years’ experience working as an editor at a major digital publication
A demonstrated understanding of digital strategy, analytics, and SEO. E-commerce experience is compelling
A demonstrated ability to create efficient processes and procedures
Passion for our diverse audience of pop culture enthusiasts, trends, and lifestyle content
Live event coverage during award season
Proven success in producing high-performing, high-quality digital content across a variety of categories in the lifestyle space, including entertainment, beauty, fashion, culture, relationships, health, and astrology
An investment in mentoring and supporting junior staffers in their career growth
A network of exceptional writers/contributors and strong roster of industry contacts
Typical wage range: $100k - $120k
