The Magazine, News & Digital Journalism Department (MND) at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications seeks a tenure-track faculty member to teach long-form narrative, with an emphasis on multi-platform story-producing, to undergraduate and graduate students. This position will teach five courses a year at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching responsibilities will include upper-level journalism capstone and reporting courses. The successful candidate will have professional experience in writing, editing and/or producing longform journalism in audio, video or other digital formats, and be able to lead students in project-based learning from pitch through research/reporting, production and distribution. The role will involve collaboration with other faculty and staff to produce innovative student journalism with professional aspirations. This position has a start date of August 21, 2023. Successful candidates must have a portfolio of work demonstrating excellence in longform narrative. Previous teaching experience is desirable, but successful candidates will show a commitment to mentorship or development of young journalists. An advanced degree is preferred. The successful candidate must show potential for conducting academic scholarship or industry-related creative activity/research that will position the hire as a recognized expert in the field. This could include producing work for professional outlets, conducting applied research targeted toward industry; and/or traditional academic scholarship. Participation in service and committee work for the department, the Newhouse School, and Syracuse University is expected.
