The Taos News, an independently owned newspaper in Northern New Mexico, is seeking a part-time copy editor.
The person selected for this role will work closely with our editor-in-chief, creative director and reporters to align all Taos News publications with AP style and company standards — including magazines, Tempo arts and entertainment magazine and our weekly newspaper. After the editor-in-chief, the copyeditor serves as an important line of defense to ensure all of our copy is clean and pages are free of all manner of errors, including design flaws, before they go to press.
The copyeditor is a key member of our award-winning newsroom staff. Successful candidates should be team players, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
This position is hourly, at 30 hours per week, an excellent opportunity for writers, editors or other creatives with a keen eye for detail looking for part-time work at a newspaper known for excellence. Training is provided, but applicants should have a strong foundation in copy editing work.

Job requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of experience editing or copyediting magazines or newspapers
Strong knowledge of AP style
Substantial experience in writing/editing
Proven ability to meet deadlines
Excellent writing and interviewing skills
Impeccable journalistic ethics
Graphic design and photojournalism/photo editing experience preferred
Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop; social media management platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X); and content management systems
Proven ability to work as part of a team
