We’re looking for an innovative and versatile journalist to grow our social media presence. We want someone who is passionate about finding new ways to share content online and reach audiences where they’re at. A successful candidate for this role will have professional journalism experience or education, familiarity with social media platforms and trends, and an interest in graphics.

Experience reporting for a publication and managing a professional organization’s social media account(s) is preferred. This is a job for people who enjoy finding the perfect sentence or quote to share in a tweet or Instagram post to boost a story’s online presence and engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet editorial department objectives.

Oversees Tax Notes social media accounts, including writing daily and weekly posts in compliance with Tax Analysts style guides and policies and illustrating posts with photos and graphics.
Engages with audience to build relationships with followers, grow online following, and respond to subscriber and/or reader questions with input from appropriate staff and/or management as needed.
Drafts and promulgates social media strategies, with approval from senior management as needed.
Develops and leads social media training and assists TA journalists and other Editorial staff with social media questions, best practices, and the Twitter verification process.
Identifies areas and topics of coverage popular among followers and develops ideas to continually reach those audiences and build new ones.
Reviews and analyzes social media analytics on a regular basis, including producing regular reports on activity, identifying areas of improvement and trends, and advising strategy changes as needed.
Live-covers events, conferences, congressional hearings, and other relevant panels, using social media platforms.
Creates visual asset graphics and illustrations to share on social media platforms.
Plans and executes social media campaigns to promote Tax Notes content, events, and initiatives in collaboration with Editorial, Marketing, and senior management.
Research areas and platforms where Tax Notes can grow its social media presence.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Deep familiarity and experience using social media platforms, particularly Twitter and LinkedIn, in a professional context.
Visual storytelling skills, using CANVA and Adobe Suite
Excellent networking and interpersonal skills.
Strong time management skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 1 year experience reporting and writing on tax or fiscal policy issues, preferably for a business-to-business publication.
Minimum 1 year experience managing the social media presence of an organization.
Strong editing skills, with experience distilling technical matters into accessible prose.
BA in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field, or equivalent in experience required
