TFE is currently seeking a Senior Technical Editor to support the work of fulfilling the Department of Energy’s post-closure responsibilities and ensure the future protection of human health and the environment at Legacy Management (LM or LMS).
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE or Department) Office of Legacy Management is committed to managing its responsibilities associated with the legacy of World War II and the Cold War. This legacy includes radioactive and chemical waste, environmental contamination, and hazardous material at over 100 sites across the country. The Department has taken major steps toward fulfilling our commitments to clean up this environmental legacy by successfully implementing an accelerated environmental remediation program. For the first time, the Department is faced with larger scale closings of a series of entire facilities.
The ideal candidate will have the skills and training to support the LMS Document Management team, which provides support for technical documents as part of the LMS contract. They will edit and create a variety of project documents, from 1-page letters to 500+ page technical reports. Above all, they will uphold the duty and quality of work of LMS. The Sr. Technical Editor will be part of the LMS Document Management team, which provides support for technical documents as part of the LMS contract.
Primary Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Editing a wide variety of project documents, from 1-page letters to 500+ page technical reports.
Using Track Changes and comments in Microsoft Word to communicate with writers.
Using SharePoint to claim and complete jobs and work on Document Management team projects.
Participating in the technical editing quality control system and style forum.
Communicating with leadership and team about deadlines and workload.
Interfacing with other departments.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree Major English, Communications, Technical Communications, Business, or related technical discipline with specialized training in technical communication, or equivalent.
At least 15 years of experience editing technical documents.
Skills, Knowledge, And Special Requirements
Ability to learn and apply organizational document styles, conventions, and requirements.
Foundation of principles, concepts, and techniques related to technical writing and editing.
Advanced knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Impeccable organizational skills, detail orientation, and follow-through.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet client's deadlines.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and tactfully with leadership, team, and customers.
