Technical Writer

This position will prepare various draft papers for electronic publication. These efforts will include contributing language for clarity; reviewing and providing comments and performing edits to draft language and figures while collaborating with multiple NIST technical staff members to ensure overall document quality.

Responsibilities

Provide project management of PSCR draft publications including tracking titles, authors, topics, and status of all in-progress publications.
Prepare and draft manuscripts for peer review including:
proof-reading
preparing citations and bibliography
incorporate manuscript into publication-appropriate template - organize figures, appendices, and supplemental information
submission of materials to the journal

Make contributions to manuscripts by specifically:
expanding outlines
creating and editing figures (graphics, schematics, diagrams, etc.)
adding figure captions
add and edit text to increase clarity
integrating and synthesizing previous work into manuscript
Oversee correspondence between reviewers and NIST technical staff; review all comments from reviewers following peer review.
Organize the comments into action items, oversee that assignment of action items to appropriate personnel, and track the status of those action items. The Contractor shall coordinate the integration of responses to reviewers into a final draft for resubmission.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or technical communications (Master’s degree preferred)
5 years of experience editing technical material
5 years of experience preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal
Basic competency with the following software: LaTex, MS Exel, MS Word, and Python (matplotlib, pandas)
2 years of experience creating or editing scientific and/or engineering data representation.
