The Technical Writer is a part of the Training and Development team within Human Resources to review, revise and create procedural documentation and training materials to be used across the company by all levels of employee.
This role works remotely but requires consistent presence at Hawaii Petroleum facilities and works directly with the Instructional Developer to ensure concise and aligned information is put together, that is easily understood and relatable to the target audience. In this role, you would be responsible for using pre-existing experience and industry knowledge to create and update procedures and training for retail and wholesale operations as well as support services within the organization.

The incumbent must have the ability to emphasize key parts of any given training whilst ensuring all documentation remains brief and factual to ensure consistent engagement amongst the desired audience.
The Technical writer must be able to create training material and write in a manner that allows their work to be continuously taught to both newly hired employees and tenured team members with clarity.

General Requirements
Must possess a valid type 3 Drivers License and have reliable transportation.
Must be readily able to travel to Hawaii Petroleum facilities such as Minit Stop stores or Wholesale warehouses without reasonable notice.
Education/Experience
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is desired however an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience in training/teaching will be considered.
Three or more years of experience in a training/educational environment is preferred with direct experience in writing content for the purposes of training a strong preference.
Experience and ability using technology to document work is a requirement including the ability to create audio, visual and written training.
Specialized skills
A professional understanding of technology such as Adobe Suite, Premier Pro and other video creation tools is required.
A familiarity with the writing of general rules, procedures and policy in concise and easily understandable language.
Professional knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office including the use of MS Teams and SharePoint.
The ability to openly communicate professionally with employees of all levels within the organization both in person and electronically.
Proficient ability to record video, photo and interactive learning documentation in person.
Experience using eLearning platforms to administer and deliver training.
Be able to work independently as well as part of a team with subject matter experts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to understand and explain complex technical concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain clear, concise and accurate instructional material: courses, curriculum, training manuals.
Collaborate with subject experts on pertinent training information as well as best methods for delivery and efficient comprehension of material.
Participate in Company meetings to understand and document required information both pre-existing and newly introduced.
Using pre-existing institutional knowledge both written and verbal, define and document company related learning and procedural material.
Design and produce content in audio, visual and interactive form using varying software and hardware dependent on subject.
Utilizing expertise, advise on key improvements required to ensure Company training and documentation is at the highest level possible.
Edit and proofread documents prepared by others for various purposes.
Pay Range
$24.00-$28.00/hr
