Position Overview
Excellent opportunity to provide direct technical writing support to the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Office of Information Technology Services (OITS). This role works hand-in-hand with various groups and communities within FHWA to develop training materials, self help guides, style guides, and other technical materials while ensuring 508 compliance regulations are fully met by all end products.
Responsibilities
Develop extensive user guides for Service Request Management (SRM) Design a style guides to facilitate updates to websites
Curate training materials for internal use that meet 508 compliance regulations using remediation software CommonLook PDF.
Writing relevant DOT technology, cybersecurity, etc., articles for internal distribution
Providing content support for reports and customer-facing materials including PPTs and other communications material.
Editing, researching, and tracking change management communications including providing feedback, researching issues, and tracking approval throughout the federal approval chain.
Author non-scientific technical reports such as: guidance circulars, reports, manuals (e.g., Policy, Engineering, Safety, Research), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), correspondence, briefings, information memoranda, action memoranda, publications, training materials, press releases, and white papers.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years experience technical writing
Bachelors degree
Thorough understanding of productivity tools within Windows and Outlook
Experience with 508 compliance and relevant tools.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Tech-Management Skills: Since most modern companies (SMEs and corporations) use software for data processing and housing, technical writers need to know how to effectively manage advanced software systems for storage, research, etc. This position requires functional knowledge of the pertinent software and machinery.
User experience development
Effective information collection: ability to continuously refine and streamline their search processes to collect the most helpful information about a subject in the shortest possible time.
Single-Source Selection Skills: Some projects may require writers to create multiple documents on the same topic, but for readers of varying proficiency levels. The writers analyze which source has ample information to benefit all readers and spin the content to suit the beginner and advanced reader.
