Every issue is packed with technique tutorials and photo editing tips, plus inspirational images by leading international photographers, camera and accessory reviews, and the latest news from across the photo industry. Our small but dedicated team is passionate about photography and inspiring Digital Camera’s readers to realise their creative vision.
What you’ll be doing
Digital Camera covers photography from an enthusiast perspective, but also caters for beginners. The technique editor will join a team of four and contribute to every section of the magazine, generating their own content and curating material supplied by other contributors. It is a busy role, with press deadlines every three and a half weeks, but will reward anyone passionate about photography who wants to learn and develop their editorial skills as part of a wider team of 20 photography enthusiasts.
Write and photograph the One to One pro masterclass (a half-day location shoot with a professional photographer, for an eight-page feature);
Write and curate the Photo Active section (10 projects over 18 pages, including single-page, two-page, three-page and four-page variants);
Curate the Hotshots gallery (highlights of winning entries in prestigious international photography awards – competitions we cover regularly, or ones that are new to us);
Write ‘Shot of the Month’ (a single-page appreciation of an image, including written contributions from its creator – to promote a book or a photography competition, or to celebrate an outstanding image submitted to the magazine by a contributor on spec);
Write our photo technique tips cards (nine all-new cards per issue, covering the genres that our readers engage with most – including landscapes, wildlife and nature, macro, creative, seasonal photography).
Contribute to the issue’s lead feature – 10 pages covering topics including landscapes, wildlife and nature, macro, image editing and more;
Contribute to the Behind the Lens two-page Q&A interview;
Contribute to the main seven-page Q&A interview.
Please note, the salary for this role is up to £28,000.
