Texas Monthly is looking to hire an editorial coordinator who will report to, and work closely with, the assistant managing editor. The editorial coordinator will be responsible for the administrative tasks that are central to the operations of the editorial department, as well as editorial tasks that align with the coordinator’s journalistic interests and/or the needs of the department. This is an entry-level position that is ideal for someone looking to get their foot in the door in magazine journalism (staffers in similar roles at Texas Monthly have gone on to be accomplished writers and editors) and to be a proactive member of the editorial team. This position is based in Austin, Texas, and requires working out of our downtown office a minimum of three days a week.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Helping organize and manage editorial projects in coordination with the assistant managing editor and director of editorial operations
Directing and/or responding to emails and phone calls to the editorial department and the editor in chief
Entering data from invoices to keep financial spend sheets accurate and up to date
Booking travel accommodations for staffers as needed
Maintaining editorial’s physical space within the office, including filing books and magazine back issues within the department’s library
Filing copyrights for the print magazine and podcasts
Sorting through and properly distributing mail sent to the editorial department
Coordinating departmental meetings and events
Taking on additional journalistic tasks, such as fact-checking, writing, or contributing to the engagement team, depending on the coordinator’s journalistic interests and/or the needs of the department

The ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically in person, on the phone, and/or via email with parties of all sorts, including Texas Monthly readers and staffers across multiple departments
An enthusiasm for, and ambitions in, magazine journalism
Spanish proficiency is not required but is a big bonus
Education/experience:
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or an otherwise relevant field
Prior experience in journalism through an internship, job, and/or student publication
