Assistant to the Sports Editor

New Posted 19 October 2022 | Albuquerque, New Mexico | The Albuquerque Journal

The Albuquerque Journal, an independent, award-winning family-owned newspaper, seeks an energetic assistant to the sports editor at an entry level position who will get a variety of experience including coverage of college football and golf. The successful candidate will plan the daily print and digital sports product twice weekly on average. Some nights and weekends will be involved, and the position requires Sunday shifts. He or she also will get started as a college football reporter with the upcoming New Mexico Bowl and continue with University of New Mexico football. The interest in golf is year-round and really gears up in the summer. If on these beats you can put your stamp on this work with fun features, a nose for hard news and ideas for enterprise, this will be right for you. Our coverage also includes the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes baseball, New Mexico United of the United Soccer League Championship pro division, big-deal preps and one of the top bases for mixed martial arts talent in the world. Albuquerque also is a great city for those who love and appreciate the outdoors, an affordable cost of living, a world-class food culture and more really good brewpubs than you count. And then there’s the spectacle of the Balloon Fiesta every October. ... Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related degree with equivalent experience.
