The independently owned Albuquerque Journal — New Mexico’s largest news organization — is seeking a night cops/breaking news reporter who can work in both the print and digital worlds. We are looking for someone who not only gets news from the police scanner, but can mine sources and police/court documents. This person must have the tenacity and empathy needed to track down and interview witnesses and victims’ families, but the sensitivity to not push someone who does not want to be interviewed. This position also covers any news stories that break late in the evening, from weather to major announcements to serious traffic incidents. The Journal newsroom is quickly moving toward a multimedia, digital-first model, and this position is key to that.
We are looking for a strong writer and reporter who is passionate about getting the story. We have a collaborative newsroom filled with talented journalists willing to help out any newcomer. If interested, send a cover letter, resume and three to five samples of work to Managing Editor Dan Herrera, dherrera@abqjournal.com, and Editor Karen Moses, kmoses@abqjournal.com.
