The Associated Press seeks two social media video producers who are creative, passionate about experimentation and interested in joining our growing team of diverse journalists focused on digital audiences. We’re looking for two video producers with a deep understanding of how video travels on social media who can work collaboratively with teams from all parts of AP’s newsroom to develop video content that helps grow our audience on social platforms and guides news consumers to APNews.com. We’re looking for a digital or video native who has a solid base of experience using video editing tools and a record of producing social video that’s engaging to online audiences. Of course, you’ll have a great news sense and know how to find and promote the video news that consumers will want to share, like and talk about on social media. That includes the ability to package and optimize video content for each social platform, including developing strategic campaigns for each. You should be able to spot opportunities to make AP’s exclusive and distinctive video news shine on social media, applying best practices for social content, search engine and social media optimization. We need teammates who can work swiftly and accurately under tight deadlines, and plan and complete short- and long-term projects with their colleagues. In this role, you will be based in either New York or Los Angeles and report to the news editor for social video. Your top priority will be to create video news that’s designed for sharing on social media – videos that connect with audiences online by being informative, visually stunning and entertaining. You’ll also manage the publication of live video streams and clips from live video, from major events such as awards shows and political speeches as well as the daily flow of breaking news. You will promote best practices in social video among AP’s news gathering and production teams around the world. As an AP journalist, you’ll also have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends as coverage demands.
