The Associated Press seeks an Editorial Assistant for its Spokane Data Center in Spokane, Washington. Data processing will be related primarily to high school and college sports information, as well as some elections data. Involvement in the other data-related projects may arise as additional projects are undertaken by the Data Center.
Prep sports responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Transmitting sports data to AP customers using Reporters Workbench and other AP tools.
Coordinating data acquisition efforts when a team leader is unavailable.
Creating game and tournament events in the prep scores database.
Advancing tournament brackets before and after a tournament game.
Answering incoming phone calls reporting game results of high school and college games.
Accurately and quickly transcribing reported score information to Data Center collection mechanisms.
Make outgoing calls to schools, coaches, member newspapers, and other organizations to collect missing scores.
Searching Internet sites for scores and schedule related information.
Input collected schedule information into Data Center sports databases.
Updating Data Center sports databases with school and coach contact information.
Election collection and entry responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Answering incoming phone calls reporting election results.
Accurately and quickly transcribing or inputting election results information into election databases.
Utilizing the Internet to obtain election results.
Make outgoing phone calls to election stringers to ensure timely capture of election night information.
Assist in the preparation of informational mailings to election stringer.
Sports statistics responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Transmitting sports data to AP customers using Reporters Workbench and other AP tools.
Accurately and quickly transcribing reported sports information to Data Center collection mechanisms.
Searching Internet sites for sports data and related information.
Using AP Style for sports data.
Creating and editing information into tabular formats for AP customers.
Working with our third-party sports data providers to resolve customers issues.
Effectively communicating with AP’s customer support department to quickly resolve sports data issues.
Qualifications:
Home computer and access to Wi-Fi is required.
Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to navigate the Internet.
Ability to use Reporters Workbench and the Prep Scores database.
Basic understanding and ability to use Excel spreadsheets.
Ability to quickly and accurately enter large volumes of data using computers.
Self-directed and able to work effectively with others in a fast-paced production environment.
Basic knowledge of school sports and elections processes.
