More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day. The Associated Press seeks a talented and aggressive reporter to work in Gaza. Reporting to the news director for Israel, Palestine and Jordan, this reporter will cover spot news and enterprise in the Gaza Strip.
Responsibilities: In this role, you will develop sources, break stories and generate creative story ideas that go beyond spot news and will resonate in the region and around the world. You will work in multiple media formats and coordinate closely with colleagues in video and photo. You must have the ability and willingness to work any shift, including at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.
We're looking for someone who will:
demonstrate a history of success as a beat reporter, with a record of delivering compelling, accurate reporting on tight deadlines that is clearly written, illuminating and engaging.
collaborate collegially with a diverse team of journalists, reporters and editors in Israel and Palestine to deliver spot news and enterprise coverage that breaks news, has impact and is exclusive to AP.
have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate and drive stories that people will want to share on social media and other platforms.
pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
Preferred qualifications: You are a self-starter who can generate ideas about Gaza that resonate around the world. You must be able to explain complex issues in clear and compelling ways and do so swiftly and accurately on extremely tight deadlines. You must be able to work effectively as a member of a team, coaching and editing others in their reporting and writing.
Required qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least five years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.
Authorization to work in Gaza will be mandatory.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Native-level Arabic is preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines.
