More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day. The Associated Press seeks a video producer to join our Health and Science team, based in any U.S. city with an AP office. We’re looking for someone who thrives on breaking news and has a creative eye for sharing the latest stories about medicine, science, and space for general news audiences and on social media.
This is a staff position covered by AP’s agreement with the News Media Guild.
Responsibilities: Reporting to a deputy Health and Science editor, you will edit and produce spot and quick turnaround videos about study stories, regulatory hearings, rocket launches and other planned – as well as unexpected – events for AP’s broadcast, digital and mobile customers, and platforms in both raw and packaged forms. You will be a partner in the reporting of stories. You also will have opportunities to gather news and shoot in the field. As an AP journalist, you must have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends as coverage demands.
We’re looking for someone who will:
Play a key role deciding video coverage of story pitches, in consultation with editors.
Write scripts and edit in different styles for other news organizations to use and direct to audiences on APNews.com and social platforms.
Produce video explainers that unpack science and health angles in the news.
Experiment with vertical videos and identify key video moments that are shareable on social, working closely with reporters and visual journalists on the team and in other departments.
Have the ability to interview anyone: researchers, patients, company executives.
Guide and coach journalists to appear on screen.
Promote inclusive storytelling and elevate videos through experimentation to reach and engage with diverse audiences.
