The Associated Press seeks an editor for its editorial newsletters who can help craft the overall strategy for newsletters and related email products, playing a pivotal role as a leader on a growing team of diverse journalists focused on digital audiences. We’re looking for a mission-driven journalist to take charge of our flagship newsletter, Morning Wire, and lead the creation – from inception to launch – of additional newsletters from across AP’s newsroom. In this role, you will be based in New York and report to the deputy director of digital news for audience development and new platforms. You will oversee all aspects of newsletter production for AP, editing Morning Wire and working with the digital news team to grow its audience. Alongside colleagues in News, as well as members of AP’s Revenue, Products and Technology teams, you’ll also develop the overall strategy for newsletters at AP and launch additional newsletters focused on topics that play to AP’s strengths. As an AP journalist, you’ll also have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends as coverage demands. We’re looking for a collaborative journalist who has demonstrated success leading and growing a newsletter operation, and who can bring to the table a deep understanding of the digital media landscape for newsletters and email products. Of course, you’ll have a great news sense and know how to highlight the stories that newsletter readers will want to share and talk about. You know how to innovate inside a newsroom while upholding editorial standards, and you enjoy working with colleagues from other departments, including Products and Revenue, to reach ambitious audience and revenue goals. You should be able to use data analytics and user feedback to develop and iterate best practices for AP’s newsletters, finding the content and formats that work best to establish and grow an audience. You’ll be as comfortable writing and editing a newsletter as you are developing the roadmap for the future of newsletters at AP, and then partnering with colleagues from across the newsroom and the company to deliver on that vision.
