The Associated Press seeks a talented visual journalist with a history of successful television and online video storytelling to join its team in Mexico as a videojournalist. In this role, you’ll use video, graphics and editing techniques to deliver visually engaging journalism as part of a dynamic, round-the-clock operation that covers Mexico and Central America.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Mexico and Central America news director and Latin America video leadership, this videojournalist will primarily shoot, write and edit video – including LIVE video – stories from Mexico for AP’s broadcast, digital and mobile customers and platforms. In this role, you will also pitch, develop and research enterprise stories. You may contribute reporting in other media formats, including text, photos and audio, to help produce a competitive and comprehensive all-formats news report. You must be prepared to travel extensively, including outside of Mexico – often at short notice – to cover breaking news.
Preferred Qualifications: You have a demonstrated history of success as a videojournalist, with a record of creating compelling visual journalism on deadline, as well as visual enterprise that is illuminating and entertaining. You must also have advanced technical skills in the creation of video content, as well as the ability to work within an all-formats team, applying strong interpersonal skills. You are creative, innovative and agile, and you work effectively in deadline-driven, dynamic newsroom and field environments, on breaking news and on short- and long-term projects.
We’re looking for someone who has a great news sense and the ability to communicate and drive stories that people will want to share, like and talk about on social media and other platforms. You’re eager to pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity. You have the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines. As an AP journalist, you must be able to and willing to work at night and on weekends as coverage demands.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as three years of full-time news experience as a video journalist at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.
All applicants must be able to work in Mexico or be able to gain permission to do so.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken Spanish and English.
Advanced-level professional competency in video shooting and non-linear editing, preferably with Adobe Premiere.
We will consider strong candidates who do not meet every listed qualification. You may use a cover letter to describe the unique qualifications you would bring to this role.
Application Deadline: January 5, 2024 @ 11:59 PM ET
