The Atlantic is seeking a skilled video and audio producer for a six-month role to help develop and lead the production of a new weekly video podcast. This show will feature the sort of informed analysis and robust discussion distinct to The Atlantic to answer the question, how can we protect American ideals against the dangers that currently threaten democratic institutions and market freedoms? The video podcast will be published on YouTube every week, as well as in its own podcast feed. The show’s producer will need the ability to act independently while also collaborating closely with the show’s host and the broader editorial team.

Key responsibilities:

Oversee the end-to-end production of the weekly video podcast, from pre-production to post-production

Coordinate and manage all video recording sessions, ensuring proper setup of lighting, audio, and camera equipment to ensure a smooth recording experience for the host and guests

Edit and enhance video content, adding graphics, transitions, and other elements to create a polished final product

Ensure consistency in visual and audio quality across all episodes

Work with the host and editor to maintain editorial excellence through topic selection, guest choices, and show format

Coordinate with editorial stakeholders like art, copy, and legal to ensure highest-quality production

Collaborate with the marketing teams to create promotional video clips for social media

Requirements:

Proven experience in video production and editing (preferably in podcasting and journalism)

Proficiency in taping and editing softwares, such as Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro

Strong understanding of lighting, audio, and camera operation for high-quality video production

Experience with remote recording workflows

Outstanding editorial judgment, and strong communication and collaboration skills

Demonstrated track record of producing high-quality work on ambitious deadlines and experience finding creative solutions to editorial problems

Familiarity with YouTube and podcast distribution platforms

Motion graphics and animation experience (preferred but not required)

This is a six month full-time temporary position and can be based in New York City or Washington, D.C.

Annualized salary minimum $85,000; Annualized salary maximum $100,000
