The Baltimore Banner is looking for a collaborative, visionary and strategic editor to lead its news desk.
The metro editor will oversee the news operation making sure that the most interesting and relevant stories that best meet our mission are being covered across the region on a daily basis. This editor will work closely with local editors, including our Express Desk editors, to make sure we are covering the most relevant, talked about stories of the day. This editor will also collaborate with our visuals and social teams to ensure that we are best using photographs and illustrations to tell our stories and using analytics to promote our work to reach the most readers. While a large part of this job will be strategic, a couple of reporters will also be assigned to this editor.
The metro editor should be versatile and able to cover a wide range of topics that incorporate different story formats for a digital audience. The ideal candidate will be a quick study who can make sure that editors are working with reporters to write stories with context and sweep. They should be able to guide editors to get the most out of their reporters and constantly make sure we are writing the “Banner” story. We want to do more than tell readers what is happening in the news; but also tell them what it means.
