The Baltimore Sun seeks a hungry, enterprising reporter to cover news in the Baltimore metro area. This reporter will report on a wide variety of topics -- writing enterprise, investigations and breaking news, driven by our awareness of what readers need to know. This reporter will build sources and mine the community and social media for leads.
What you will do:
Pitch and develop enterprise stories that readers can’t find anywhere else
Mine sources and the digital world for leads on timely, quick-turnaround news
Utilize news awareness and audience metrics/analytics to refine coverage
Work with visual and digital journalists to tell stories in a variety of media — photo galleries, videos, audio, timelines, charts, graphics, interactive tools and more
Cultivate trust among a network of diverse sources
Share news, engage with and grow a network of followers on social media to promote content and spark community discussion
What you will bring:
Three - Five years of reporting experience at a daily news organization
Excellent writing skills and the ability to tell a story
Excellent news judgment and understanding of journalistic ethics
Experience working in a CMS
Familiarity with and interest in the Baltimore area and its justice institutions
Working knowledge of photo and video
