The Eagle is an audience-first, digital-first news organization that produces a traditional newspaper downstream in the process. Locally owned and operated, The Berkshire Eagle is not loose change in a venture capital portfolio. Our goal is to be the finest community newspaper in the United States and we are consistently a Newspaper of the Year for our size in New England. We aim to hire an insightful and committed storyteller who believes in the calling of community journalism — and seeks to practice it in a dynamic area abounding with natural beauty and yet close to New York and Boston. We're looking for a self-starter with a strong track record in daily journalism. Candidates must be interested in everything about public life and able to work fluidly on digital story-telling platforms to ensure we remain the leading source of news and information for our readers. Candidates must bring proof they know how to find and write fresh and engaging jargon-free stories, whether it’s breaking news or in-depth features. Our reporting teams present local news ethically, accurately and completely. They write and report for readers, helping them to understand why a story matters. They cover their beats relentlessly. They use social media to engage readers. They tap alternative story formats at times and embrace the use of data visualizations and maps, along with short reporter-generated video and audio.
