The Boston Globe is looking for an experienced beat reporter with a track record of breaking news to cover all aspects of the Boston Red Sox, from the front office to the field.
Responsibilities:
Consistently break team news, including roster moves, player and team personnel news on and off the field, team initiatives or new ventures, and other developments following established digital best practices.
Cover games, team events, spring training, and team trends. Write features, profiles, previews, enterprise stories, and use alternate story forms to provide authoritative and compelling content about the Red Sox.
Travel for road series and other reporting opportunities, as well as working at night, on weekends, and on holidays.
Work collaboratively as part of a three-person team on this beat, as well as with department leadership, copy desk editors, and web producers.
Qualifications:
3-5 years experience as a beat reporter covering a major professional sports team or a high-level college program, or similar professional experience.
Entertaining, informative, and engaging writing style free of factual, grammatical, and other errors.
Comprehensive knowledge of, and demonstrated use of, best practices for digital journalism.
Ability to hit all deadlines with clearly written and error-free content, as well as ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
Ability to create content without the benefit of access to team personnel, such as off-day stories, explainers, and other story forms.
Ability to develop sources throughout the beat, consistently break news, and thrive under the pressure of a highly competitive environment.
Ability to spot and develop content about trends, team dynamics, and other story lines that emerge both on and off the field.
Ability to use online metrics and analytics to inform coverage decisions and content priorities.
