The Chicago Sun-Times is looking for an experienced digital copy editor to edit its award-winning website. Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced, breaking news environment and collaborate with reporters and editors. Applicants also must have sound news judgment and mastery of AP style, spelling, and grammar. Duties include editing stories for content and clarity, writing headlines and captions, and checking facts.

Responsibilities

Producing factually accurate and original stories
Provide breaking and trending news and feature coverage, as well as in-depth pieces on a variety of topics, including culture and lifestyle trends
Report clearly, accurately, and fairly to deliver fully sourced news stories on tight deadlines
Observe Chicago culture for interesting people, creations, and trends
Work collaboratively with editors and other reporters

Qualifications

Minimum of three years of editing or copy editing experience at a news organization.
Mastery of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Excellent knowledge of AP Style
Experienced in writing strong headlines
History of collaborating well with colleagues in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends
