The Cipher Brief is seeking a freelance journalist to play an important role in our growing coverage of national security, cyber, and intelligence-related topics and news stories.
The journalist will work in close partnership with the Deputy Managing Editor, as well as several members of The Cipher Brief team, and will be expected to attend DC conferences, summits, and other potential news-making events, develop sources, file day-of stories and break news on security, cyber, and intelligence-related topics, while also producing semi-regular analysis-driven articles.
We are seeking an accomplished journalist with a proven track record of covering Washington DC., with an emphasis on source-cultivation, research, poise-under-deadlines, capacity to deliver attention-grabbing headlines and ledes, and an overall sense of what makes for compelling story-telling.
Candidates should send a résumé and three clips.
All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 06/01/2023 will be prioritized.
