The Detroit News seeks an enterprising reporter to join its award-winning business and autos team. The job is based in our Detroit newsroom. The ideal candidate would be a self-starting beat reporter hungry for both regional and national competition. You’ll join our team of Detroit-based auto writers, auto critic, business reporters and business columnist to cover the global auto industry as it adapts to a fast-changing automotive landscape.
This person primarily would cover the auto industry, its pivot to electrification and the political and regulatory forces reshaping it. The successful candidate primarily would be assigned to one of Detroit’s three automakers but would be expected to source across the companies, the United Auto Workers, industry analysts and affected communities. In addition, you’d assist in coverage of issues that impact Detroit and Michigan.
Successful candidates are enterprise-driven and adept at social media and computer-assisted reporting. Comfort working collaboratively is strongly desired. Direct inquiries to Managing Editor Kevin J. Hardy at kjhardy@detroitnews.com with "Auto Reporter" in the subject field.
