The Fresno Bee is seeking an Opinion editor/writer to provide urgent and local editorials as a part of McClatchy’s talented California opinion team.

We want a digital first journalist who provides local and state commentary that effects change, breaks news and elevates diverse voices in our communities. Success in this position requires being at the center of those communities as a writer, editor and leader of relevant discussions of local and statewide issues. The next editor will include a wide range of diverse political views in our opinion content with the aim of leading a civil community conversation about local public policy issues.

The opinion editor will write columns and reported editorials representing The Bee’s views on Fresno and the Central Valley region. The opinion editor will continually work to find ways to engage our audiences.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is between $80,000 and $110,000 a year. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, department equity and relevant education.

What You'll Bring:

*Have at least five years of journalism experience.

*Have strong editing skills and news judgment.

*Enthusiasm for learning new skills and technologies, such as AI.

*Help develop innovative ways to capture new and underserved audiences, working with the Bees growth editor on audience engagement through audio, video and community outreach.

*A background in opinion writing is a plus.
